ওয়াশিংটন ডিসিতে বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসে গত ৪ নভেম্বর যথাযোগ্য মর্যাদায় ‘জাতীয় সংবিধান দিবস’ পালন করা হয়।
১৯৭২ সালের এই দিনে গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের সংবিধান বাংলাদেশের গণপরিষদ কর্তৃক গৃহীত হয় এবং এটি একই বছরের ১৬ ডিসেম্বর কার্যকর হয়।খবর বাপসনিঊজ।
ঐতিহাসিক দিনটি স্মরণে দূতাবাস বিকেলে বঙ্গবন্ধু মিলনায়তনে এক অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে।
যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে নিযুক্ত বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রদূত মুহাম্মদ ইমরান কর্তৃক জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের আবক্ষ মূর্তিতে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণের মাধ্যমে দিবসের কর্মসূচী শুরু হয়। এ সময় দূতাবাসের কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারীবৃন্দ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
এই উপলক্ষে প্রদত্ত মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি ও মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর বাণী পাঠ করেন মিনিস্টার (কনস্যুলার) মোহাম্মদ হাবিবুর রহমান ও কাউন্সিলর শামীমা ইয়াসমিন স্মৃতি।
পরে দিবসটির তাৎপর্য তুলে ধরে এক আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। আলোচনায় অংশ নিয়ে রাষ্ট্রদূত মুহাম্মদ ইমরান জাতীয় সংবিধান দিবসকে বাঙালি জাতির জন্য একটি ঐতিহাসিক দিন হিসেবে বর্ণনা করেন এবং এর গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরেন।
জাতির পিতার প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা জানিয়ে তিনি বলেন, সর্বকালের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালি বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান স্বাধীনতার মাত্র ১১ মাসের মধ্যে সদ্য স্বাধীন জাতিকে এর দীর্ঘ প্রতীক্ষিত সংবিধান উপহার দেন। রাষ্ট্রদূত ইমরান মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনা ও বঙ্গবন্ধুর আদর্শে উদ্বুদ্ধ হয়ে ক্ষুধা ও দারিদ্র্যমুক্ত উন্নত ও সমৃদ্ধ বাংলাদেশ গড়তে মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার নেতৃত্বে ঐক্যবদ্ধভাবে কাজ করার জন্য সকলের প্রতি আহ্বান জানান।

The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC today (November 4) observed ‘National Constitution Day’ in a befitting manner.

On this day in 1972, the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of Bangladesh, and it came into effect on December 16 in the same year.

The Embassy arranged a program at the Bangabandhu Auditorium in the afternoon to commemorate the historic day.

The program began with placing of floral wreaths at the bust of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Muhammad Imran. Officials and employees of the Embassy were present at that time.

Then the messages from the President and the Prime Minister were read out by Minister (Consular) Mohammad Habibur Rahman ‍and Counsellor (Political-III) Shamima Yeasmin Smrite.

Later a discussion session was held highlighting the significance of the day. Taking part in the discussion, Ambassador Muhammad Imran described ‘National Constitution Day’ as a historic day for the Bengali nation and highlighted its importance.

He paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and said the greatest Bangalee of all time presented the long-awaited Constitution to the newly-independent nation within only 11 months of independence.

Ambassador Imran urged all to work unitedly under the leadership of honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build a hunger-and-poverty-free developed and prosperous Bangladesh being imbued with the spirit of the great War of Liberation and the ideology of Bangabandhu.
